As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into scientific research, responsible use has become an essential component of modern scientific writing. This topic was explored in the Djakarta B+C Room during the Workshop on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Scientific Writing,” held as part of the 13th Annual Scientific Meeting InaHRS 2026, themed “Rhythm of Life: Latest Innovations in Arrhythmology.”
Course Director, Dian Andina Munawar, MD, PhD, opened the workshop and guided participants through the pre-test. The program covered ethical AI use, research gap identification, literature review, manuscript preparation, and detection of AI-assisted writing.
The workshop began with Prof. Yoga Yuniadi, MD, PhD, who emphasized the importance of academic integrity and responsible AI use in arrhythmia research. Although AI can accelerate scientific writing, its use must remain transparent and ethical, particularly in medical research where patient safety and scientific credibility are at stake.
A series of hands-on sessions led by Prof. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko followed. Participants learned how to use AI to identify research gaps, develop research questions, conduct literature reviews, and prepare publishable manuscripts. The sessions included practical demonstrations using ChatGPT and introduced prompt engineering principles involving context, role, constraints, length, and additional information. Participants were also encouraged to critically evaluate AI-generated information rather than accepting it without verification.
The final session, “Can We Detect AI-Assisted Writing?”, explored approaches for identifying AI-assisted manuscripts. The discussion highlighted that detection requires careful assessment and should not rely solely on automated detection tools. Overall, the workshop provided practical guidance on integrating AI into scientific writing while maintaining academic integrity, critical thinking, and publication standards.
